Can you tell me what the difference is between an abstract and full text of an article?

I'm also confused about peer reviewed and scholarly articles.

Answer

That's a good question!

Abstracts are a paragraph summary of the article which is most often seen in scholarly or peer-related articles.  Those two terms are used interchangeably articles that show their research sources (scholarly) and are often published only after anonymous review by experts in their field (peer-reviewed). These articles start with a summation of the need for the article and how the research was done and the author's conclusions.

Sometimes in the databases, the full text of the entire article isn't available electronically and only the abstract is provided. The majority of articles in our databases are full text.
